Getting started

How do I install Detectly?

Go to the Shopify App Store, search for Detectly, and click Install. No code changes or theme edits are needed — the app sets itself up automatically.

How do I activate the UTM capture block?

After installing, go to your Shopify theme editor (Online Store > Themes > Customize). You'll see a Detectly UTM Capture block available — enable it. This silently captures UTM parameters from every visitor session.

How long until I see data?

Attribution data starts appearing within minutes of your first visitor with UTM parameters. For meaningful analytics, we recommend waiting 24-48 hours after install.

Do I need to modify my theme code?

No. Detectly uses Shopify's theme app extension system. You just enable it in the theme editor — zero code edits required.

UTM & Attribution

What UTM parameters does Detectly capture?

Detectly captures all five standard UTM parameters: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, and utm_term. It also captures click IDs like fbclid, gclid, and ttclid.

What's the difference between first-touch and last-touch attribution?

First-touch credits the channel that originally brought the customer to your store. Last-touch credits the channel from the most recent visit before purchase. Detectly tracks both so you can see which channels acquire customers vs. which ones close sales.

Why don't some orders have attribution data?

Orders placed via POS, draft orders, or headless checkouts may not have pixel data. Orders from visitors who block cookies or arrive without UTM parameters will also appear as 'Direct'. This is normal and expected.

How does cross-session tracking work?

Detectly assigns each visitor a first-party ID stored in their browser. When the same visitor returns days or weeks later, their sessions are stitched together — so you see the full journey from first ad click to purchase.

Meta Ads Integration

How do I connect Meta Ads?

Go to Settings > Integrations in Detectly, click Connect Meta Ads, and authorize with your Facebook account. Select the ad account you want to import spend from.

What data does Detectly pull from Meta?

Detectly imports campaign spend data (cost per day per campaign) to calculate ROAS. It does not read your ad creatives, audiences, or personal data from Meta.

What is CAPI (Conversions API)?

The Conversions API sends purchase events directly from your server to Meta, improving ad optimization and measurement accuracy. Detectly can send purchase events with attribution data to help Meta optimize your campaigns.

My Meta connection shows an error. What do I do?

Try disconnecting and reconnecting from Settings > Integrations. Make sure you're authorizing with a Facebook account that has admin access to the ad account. If the issue persists, email us at hello@getdetectly.com.

Billing & Plans

What plans are available?

Detectly offers three plans: Free ($0, up to 50 orders/month), Starter ($4.99/month, up to 300 orders), and Growth ($7.99/month, up to 1,500 orders). All billing is handled through Shopify.

How do I upgrade or downgrade?

Go to the Billing page inside Detectly. Select the plan you want and confirm. Shopify handles the billing change and any prorated charges.

What happens if I exceed my order limit?

Orders beyond your plan's limit are still tracked, but you'll see a notification to upgrade. We never delete your data — you can upgrade at any time to unlock full access.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel anytime by uninstalling the app from your Shopify admin (Settings > Apps). Billing stops immediately. Your data is retained for 30 days in case you reinstall.

Privacy & Data

Is Detectly GDPR compliant?

Yes. Detectly operates as a data processor under GDPR. We offer a Data Processing Addendum (DPA), encrypt all data in transit and at rest, and honor Shopify's compliance webhooks for data deletion requests.

What cookies does Detectly set?

Detectly sets first-party cookies on your storefront: _rtk_vid (visitor ID, 365 days), _rtk_sid (session ID, 30 min), and _rtk_attr (attribution data in localStorage, 90 days). These are not shared with third parties. See our Cookie Policy for full details.

Does Detectly respect cookie consent?

Yes. Detectly integrates with Shopify's Customer Privacy API. If a visitor hasn't granted analytics consent, Detectly will not set tracking cookies or send events.

How do I request data deletion?

Uninstalling the app triggers automatic data deletion within 30 days. For specific customer data requests, email hello@getdetectly.com or use Shopify's built-in customer data request tools.
